My Master Herbalist coursework is in the post, and on it's way for grading!
Things have been crazy the last few weeks. I've been spread thin between fandom projects, case studies and tying up loose ends on my certification, apartment inspections (which means carpet cleaning and wall scrubbing), and my kids' birthday party which is this weekend. If I ever run out things that have to be done immediately, I'll be really, really happy.
Yesterday I had:
Breakfast: 5 bananas and 1/2 a Caribbean Red Papaya
Lunch: Banana Date smoothie (8 dates, 5 bananas)
Exercise: Grocery shopping, then a 2 1/2 mile walk and more shopping (off day)
Second Lunch: 2 lbs red grapes and 2 large Asian pears
Dinner: Pureed pumpkin soup and a large green leaf salad with yellow pepper, 1 large tomato, and 1/2 an avocado
The pumpkin soup was to-freaking DIE for! My family and I carved pumpkins last night together, and when I say together, I mean my two kids lost interest halfway through (both toddlers) and Seth and I finished it alone. And when I say Seth and I finished it alone, I mean I lost interest 3/4 of the way through and Seth finished it alone. But I swear, I was in the kitchen. Why? Because with out pumpkin scraper, we managed to scrape out a giant bowlful or shredded pumpkin meat, and we just HAD to eat it :) Pumpkin soup was very simple, just blended pumpkin with ginger, cinnamon, and garlic. The flavor was incredible, and I'm doing it again with a large butternut squash I've yet to cut into.

Adjusting...
I'm adjusting awfully well to eating out on 811. I went out for a day long shopping trip with my family yesterday, taking along 1.5 litres of pure water and a pound of dates. While we were out, we stopped in at Target Greatland, where they just added a small grocery section. What do you know, their bananas are only .19 cents apiece, just like Trader Joe's! I bought 8 of them and a pound of strawberries for only 1.99$, and the whole family was able to snack on fruit during the outing. Plus, I didn't have to go to Jamba Juice. I really love JJ, but 5$ for a smoothie that's only 430 calories is not a good deal. Maybe if they crammed in a few more bananas and used a little less juice...
Today I've had...
Breakfast: 4 soaked dates, several cups baby spinach, and 7 small bananas
Lunch: 1 pound of grapes, 4 large bananas
that's all I've had so far, I'm skipping my Insanity workout today in lieu of the incredibly long walk I'll be taking later this afternoon. Picking back up tomorrow with Plyo Cardio Circuit.
I'll probably eat more dates, bananas, and greens. I've got a ton of ripe kiwis and frozen mango and blueberries, too. I'm off for now, I have a huge fiction project due for an event tonight and about a million more things to do today. Have a fruity day!

Basil Rules!
Today was ultra successful at the farmer's market. The light rain didn't stop me and my family from caravaning the mile out to Country Club where we have a year round farmer's market. I'm seriously so grateful to be living within easy walking distance.
Today I made out crazy with a giant bag of black grapes, 6 pounds for 3$. I know it's insane, but there's this one stand that only sells fruit, and they always have overripe or bruised fruits set aside in bags for 3$ each. I was getting insane deals on white nectarines a few weeks ago, but now it's more pomegranates, tomatoes and grapes. So anyway, I bought:
A bundle of fresh basil
A bundle of fresh cilantro
A bundle of baby bok choy
3 large daikon roots
4 large asian pears (75 cents a pound, wat?!?)
1 red and 1 yellow bell pepper
6 pounds ripe tomatoes
6 pounds black grapes
6 pounds fuyu persimmons
...for a grand total of 20$. Oh, yeah. I can't NOT afford to eat this way.
By the way, did you see the last thing on the list? Do you see? Maybe you don't understand...
...Persimmons are the greatest thing on earth. This fruit is my soulmate. I love it more than any other food on earth, and it's only available for a short time each year. I can't even express to you how intense my love for persimmons is, and if I could, you would flee in terror. Now, the persimmons they're selling now aren't ripe, so you can imagine how agonizing it is to walk into my kitchen every five freaking minutes and see 6 epic pounds of them just...waiting. For me.
Do not eat unripe persimmons. They are nasty, and they taste like sweetened Styrofoam. That's why most people don't like persimmons. If you let a fuyu persimmon ripen until it's soft to the touch, even so soft as like pudding, you won't know how to emotionally deal with all the wasted time in your life you could have spent eating persimmons.
Anyway...here's what was on the menu today.
Breakfast: Banana ice cream smoothie with 3 frozen bananas, 3 regular bananas, and 6 soaked dates
Exercise: Walked 2 miles pushing double stroller and groceries
Second Breakfast: 1 pound of black grapes and 4 bananas
Exercise: Beachbody Insanity
Lunch: Fruit salad with one cucumber, date sauce from 10 dates, and 3 bananas
Afternoon Snack: 2 small apples and 2 bananas
Dinner: Salad with chopped tomatoes, boiled white potatoes, shredded romaine, and 1 cup shredded fresh basil. It was made of yum.
Today I tore it up as far as calories, eating much more food to match my activity levels. Variety is lacking, but I wasn't bored. I have 2 Caribbean red papayas ripening and, of course, several pounds of persimmons, so I'm definitely learning how to branch out into fruity variety. I really consider bananas to be the rice of 80/10/10 in my interpretation, and since I really like them it doesn't bother me to eat them so often. As you know from this blog, we are living just below the poverty level as of the time of this post, so I'm really amazed at the quality and quantity of my food options. I don't feel starved for anything, and really the only foods I want are fruits I've yet to try. I really want to eat a custard apple, a durian, starfruit, dragon fruit, and all the other fantabulous edibles waiting for me out there.

What?!?
80/10/10, week 3. The ratios are right, but it's not 100% raw. I'm cruising on this at the moment, as every attempt to go all the way overnight has resulted in burnout. And really, I dislike the taste of most raw vegetables to this day, and frankly, I'd rather eat some steamed vegetables that skip them altogether at this point in my personal journey. My combining could be better, but we're taking it step by step, and noting bad reactions.
As always, tons of water in between meals.
Breakfast: Fruit salad with 5 kiwis, 4 plums, and 4 bananas
Second Breakfast: 4 bananas topped with thick date sauce made from 8 soaked medjool dates (my current fave meal)
Exercise: Beachbody's Insanity (getting ready for Asylum and MC2)
Post Workout Meal: Smoothie made from several handfuls baby spinach, 5 bananas, and 2 cups frozen mango chunks.
Dinner: 1/2 an avocado and a large bowl of plain vegetable stew with cabbage, tomatoes, gray squash, and white potatoes.
Today, I definitely slacked on the calories. I've recently switched my workout schedule from Chalean Extreme/Turbofire to Insanity, and I'm finding that I'll need to eat more to fuel up for this new workout. Tomorrow is farmer's market, it's going to be raining but we'll be walking out there anyway, must pick up my bags of overripe fruit on discount!! Plus, the persimmons are starting to come in and I have to eat as many as possible before they're gone. My favorite fruit, why are you so fleeting?
On a side not, I am experiencing AMAZING blood sugar control. When I switched back to 80/10/10 3 weeks ago after a long and gradual cleansing of grains from my diet, I had really bad blood sugar reactions. Terrible headaches, persistent thirst, etc...it sucked. And then one day, it just vanished, and from then on it's just been better and better. Yesterday I was stuck without food for several hours, and I didn't experience any weird mood swings, headaches, anything at all. I just plain felt hungry, but I never lost my mind over it. Your welcome, pancreas! I did no overts whatsoever, and then yesterday picked up some avocados since they were on sale and I do want to eat them occasionally, as I feel overt fats in sparing amounts are beneficial. Hasn't really caused any fluctuations. I think I'll steer clear of them every day, however.
Papayas are ripening as we speak. Bring it on, fruit.
Case studies are almost complete. I am this close to officially being certified as a Master Herbalist. Yay, me!
